Eugene Cain General David, I was here in 1989....pretty much got the same shot. The Tracks were still in place between Inverness and South Dunnellon but CSX was just about to take them up. I got many Pictures of the track just before and during the removal stage north of Inverness. Do you know when CSX quit south of Inverness??? had to be either late 1986 or early 1987. I have a Book called "Seaboard System" and it shows many through freights operating here up to late 1986. The book does mention that the route was closed, but does not give a specific date. I know the tracks were gone from here in 1987 sometime. These are great Pictures david...I would love to see a train passing here prior to the abandonment 3/31/2011 1:09:22 PM
Eugene Cain General David, I found a Picture of this location in September of 1985, when the line was still open. I will send you the link. The Picture was made just to the north of this location and is at the south end of the South Floral City Pass Track. You can see the Defect Detector off in the distance on the left. I saw on Google this location and it appears this Building is still there even though the Withlacoochee Trail runs by it. I plan to revisit this spot this Summer sometime. 5/6/2012 10:27:05 PM
Eugene Cain General So funny...the date of my visit to Florida was the last week of June, 1989. So y ou were here about 2 months before I got there. By this time the Dupont Sub was also abandoned and CSX had routed most Trains to the S Line via Callahan. Out of all this carnage, onr Track was rebuilt though. The Brooker Sub!!! Heard a rumor CSX actually cut the Dupont Sub in an attempt to get out of their contract with Crystal River. The Brooker Sub rehab happened as a result. Can't confirm this but heard it several times come up. 5/9/2012 12:33:30 AM
